NUS App A Hit With Students

NUS Extra, an iPhone app that lets students claim discounts, has been downloaded 45,000 times since it launched three weeks ago.

The app, which was created by Manchester-based agency Bite Digital, provides an interface for students to review the discounts that are available to them, while providing the brands concerned with an additional way to engage with the student population.

Since the app launched, the National Union of Students website has experienced a 70 per cent increase in visits from iPhones, iPods and iPads, while and overall page views increased by more than 43 per cent in the weeks following the apps release.

Sharon Leeson, head of commercial development at NUS and NUS Services says: “We are delighted with the success of this app to date. This is our first venture into this channel, and it is already proving to be a valuable addition to our marketing mix, giving fantastic profile to the exclusive range of brands that we work with.”

The NUS is also set to update its NUS Extra homepage within the next few weeks. Digital agency Code ComputerLove is  working on that rebrand project to deliver greater branding opportunities for partners, and a more engaging user experience for cardholders.
