O2 is to launch voice-enabled shortcodes on 1 October, falling in line with the UKs other mobile operators, and enabling brands to promote 5-digit shortcodes as a way of contacting them via SMS, MMS or voice, for a standard rate across all mobile networks.
MX Telecom, the mobile connectivity, delivery and payment solutions provider, has welcomed the announcement, and says it is accepting orders for voice-enabled shortcodes now, for cross-network activation from 1 October.
This development finally enables Voice Short Codes to fulfil their potential as the perfect cross-network voice solution says MX Telecom Managing Director, Alex Moir. Premium rate call channels for voting and competitions should significantly benefit from this improved pricing clarity and the simplicity of using short codes for voice, while call charges from mobiles may vary will hopefully become a thing of the past.
