O2 Hires Thompson

Mobile operator O2 has announced that it is to appoint Gav Thompson as Head of Brand Strategy, with effect from 29 October 2007. Thompson replaces Tim Sefton, who has been appointed Senior VP Strategy & Development for O2 Group. Thompson will report to O2 Customer Director Cath Keers, who is also responsible for business strategy, communications and business development, reporting to O2 UK Chief Executive Matthew Key.
Thompson has had a 13-year career in ad agencies in London, New York & Sydney. In 2004, he set up SHOP, a communications agency which includes Mercedes-Benz, Christian Aid and Invesco Perpetual among its clients.
He began his career at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, where he rose to lead the team which created the Guinness Good things come to those who wait campaign. While Managing Partner of TBWALondon, he was responsible for the successful global launch campaign for PlayStation 2, as well as looking after 3, Absolut, Strongbow, Red Stripe and Ask.com.
