O2 to sue Ericsson over data outage

O2 plans to sue its technology supplier Ericsson for tens of millions of pounds after last week’s data outage, according to a report in the Telegraph. According to the report, O2 and parent company Telefonica are holding crisis talks with the infrastructure provider today.

The failure was caused by the expiry of software licence certificates and caused massive disruption to O2 and its customers. The same system caused a day-long outage in 2012.

It is thought that O2 suffered partly because it had recently implemented the latest version of Ericsson’s systems.
