Ofcom has announced plans to cap the mobile termination rates (MTRs) paid by operators when subscribers call a UK mobile number, in an effort to reduce the cost of domestic calls for consumers.
Currently, the caps on these rates stand at 0.845p per minute. As of May, MTR will fall to 0.683p per minute and, by the beginning of April 2017, to 0.516p.
These cuts are an ongoing process – back in March 2011, MTRs were as high as 4.48p per minute.
