Ola Promises 20 Minute Food Delivery in Four Cities

ola cafe comboIndian ride-hailing app Ola has launched a food delivery service, promising to drop off hot meals to the users location within select neighbourhoods in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi.

The service, called Ola Cafe, enables users to tap within the app and choose a meal or snack from a series of customised menus, paying either by cash upon delivery or using Ola Money, the firms digital wallet service.

Orders can be placed between 12 PM and 11 PM, with different options available at different times, and currently have to be delivered to the users location at the time of order, although this may change in the future.

The service is similar to Ubers UberFRESH, which launched in the US last year and was piloted in Barcelona around the time of the Mobile World Congress this year.

Ola recently acquired rival company TaxiForSure for around £130m, making it the largest player in the rapidly-expanding Indian ride-hailing market, with a valuation of over £1.3bn. The company has been growing rapidly over the last year, and is aiming to increase from 67 cities to over 200 by the end of 2015.
