OnLive Launches Cloud Gaming App

Cloud gaming service OnLive has launched a mobile app which enables users to stream high-performance games onto smartphones and tablets. Launching with a library of games including Batman: Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, the app can connect to the Cloud via Wi-Fi or mobile internet.

“This is a big milestone for gaming,” says Steve Perlman, OnLive founder and CEO. “Now tablets and smartphones – the fastest-growing category of consumer electronic devices in history – can play the latest and highest-performance games, without compromises.”

Its easy to see how touch controls might prove problematic with some of the more complex game the service is offering. However, where devices support it, a wireless controller can be used to play the games. Most OnLive games are cross-platform, meaning users can start a play session on a PC and then continue on their tablet where they left off.

The app is currently available for Android – according to the company, it will be available on other platforms once the app has passed the certification process.
