OpenTable to Test Mobile Payments in Restaurants

Restaurant reservation service OpenTable is set to pilot mobile payments

Rather than using QR codes or NFC, the system is linked to the diners booking, through the OpenTable app. It will enable them to review the bill, adjust the tip and pay for their meal in-app, The New York Times reports.

OpenTable says it doesnt intend to take a cut of the money – this is just a way of making the service more attractive to users and restaurants.

Pilots will begin in San Francisco before the end of the year, before potentially rolling out to other markets.
