The number of monthly users for Opera Softwares web browsers has hit the 300m milestone.
That number includes its browsers across desktop computers and TVs, as well as mobile phones and tablets, but mobile makes up the majority. During December, more than 229m people used the Opera Mini and Mobile browsers.
“This marks the first lap, but the race goes on,” said Opera CEO Lars Boilesen. “On the final stretch up to 300m users, we have experienced the fastest acceleration in user growth we have ever seen. Now, we are shifting into the next gear to claim a bigger piece of the pie in the smartphone market.” 
To this end, Opera will be making the transition to the WebKit engine and Chromium for most upcoming versions of its browsers.
