Opera Software’s Opera Mini browser clocked up a record 100m monthly users and 2bn daily page views in March, a landmark Opera CEO Lars Boilesen describes quite simply as: “Sweeeet!” (sic).
Opera announced a figure of 100m users a couple of months ago, but that was a combined figure for both its mobile browsers, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Today’s announcement relates purely to Opera Mini.
The number of monthly Opera Mini users across the globe has grown by 11m since February 2011 and doubled from the 50m milestone achieved in February 2010. Opera Mini’s twin March milestone of 2bn daily page views doubles the 1bn daily page view figure achieved in July 2010.
Opera Mini works on more than 3,000 different mobile phone models, from basic feature phones to high-end smartphones. The browser compresses web content by up to 90 per cent before sending it to the phone, resulting in faster page loading and lower browsing costs. It shares many features with Opera’s browsers for computers, including tabbed browsing, password manager, bookmarks and Speed Dial. Opera Mini is available as a free download from m.opera.com on your phone.
