Orange Brings Libon to Android

Orange has launched Libon, its OTT communications app, for Android.

The app enables users to make calls, send messages and receive voicemail via a mobile data connection.

Libon launched for iOS back in November, but due to t

he nature of Android, this version has the added bonus of tighter integration, and can be set as the devices primary handler of telephony services.

“The launch of Libon on Android was an absolute must. It’s overtaken iOS numbers in the smartphone OS wars and we’re very excited to finally offer something to the thousands of users who have been asking about this,” said head of Libon Giles Corbett. “This is just the start for our Android version. Stay tuned for more functionalities in the coming weeks, including the introduction of our premium offering. We’re fully committed to making Libon the most powerful communications app on Android and iOS available today.”

An updated version of the iOS app, adding picture messaging, is expected next week, and a HTML5 version is set to follow in July, bringing the service to every mobile OS, as well as PCs.

According to Orange, Libon will also become compatible with Joyn later this year, in order to offer RCS services.
