Ovi Maps Adds Trip Advisor

Nokia has added Trip Advisor, the world’s largest online travel community, to its online mapping service, Ovi Maps.

In addition to existing content from Lonely Planet, Qype, Michelin and Time Out, Trip Advisor adds hotel, flight and restaurant recommendations to the car and pedestrian navigation features provided by Ovi Maps. This includes turn-by-turn voice guidance for 74 countries in 46 languages, and traffic information for over 10 countries, as well as detailed maps for over 180 countries.

“We want to make booking flights, accommodation and sharing your travel experiences as familiar as using your mobile for navigation. We believe that combining the number one travel recommendation site with the best online maps service will do just that,” says Rupert Englander, head of services at Nokia UK.

Nokia points out that the latest version of Ovi Maps comes with all the maps and high-end, car-grade navigation features users need for free, and is the user’s to keep for the life of the smartphone. This includes turn-by-turn, voice guided navigation for both drivers and pedestrians. No network connection is required when navigating, thanks to Ovi Maps’ advanced hybrid vector maps technology. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive, allowing uers to continue to navigate even if they lose their network connection.

Trip Advisor attracts more than 35m unique monthly visitors, and has 15m members, and 35m reviews and opinions, covering more than 1m destinations, hotels, restaurants and attractions. Ovi Maps is compatible with 21 current Nokia devices. There’s more information here.
