Pandora Hits 200m Users

Online radio service Pandora has hit the milestone of 200m registered users in the US.

Pandora started as an web service in 2005, but mobile can take credit for a large part of this growth, with more than 140m users having accessed the service through on a mobile device. One in three smartphone users in the US access Pandora on a monthly basis.

It took six years for Pandora to hit 100m users in July 2011, but has doubled that number in less than two years.

The service is currently only available in the US, Australia and New Zealand. By comparison, Spotify – which works slightly differently, as its primarily for streaming songs of the users choice – has 24m active users, while Deezer – a more similar service available in 182 countries – has 26m registered users.
