Pandora is the Highest Earning iOS App of All Time

iPad-Apple-App-Store-iOSA report from app analytics firm App Annie has revealed the most popular iOS apps of all time.

As you might expect, the list of most downloaded apps is dominated by Facebook, Apple and Google. Facebook takes the top spot, with its Messenger app in second place.

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the list is the inclusion of iTunes U, Apples education app, which App Annie reports is down to its popularity in China.

The list of highest earning apps is a more varied selection, with Skype the only app to appear on both download and revenue lists.

The revenue list is topped by Pandora Radio – a position it holds almost entirely due to the US market, which accounts for practically all of its revenue – followed by Line and dating app Zoosk. In fourth place, Apples own Pages word processor is the only premium app on the list – the rest all rely on in-app purchases for revenue – and even it became a free app back in October 2013.

Its worth noting that these lists do not include games, as App Annie splits them out into a separate category. The most downloaded iOS game is Candy Crush Saga, but its beaten out by Clash of Clans for revenue. Unfortunately, App Annie gives no indication of how these stack up next to the non-gaming apps.
