Pantone Updates Mobile App Offerings

Colour standards company Pantone has released its first Android app, and updated the popular iOS app to version 2.0.

myPantone for Android brings Pantones iPhone application to the Android platform. The app allows users to capture and share colour palettes using their device. It is designed for creative professionals to effectively colour-match using colours from the real world.

The app gives access to over 13,000 Pantone colours.

The updated iOS version of myPantone sees the company respond to feedback from the original version, says Pantone. myPantone 2.0 adds colour calibration tools to improve the appearance of Pantone Colours on screen, CMYK support for Pantone Plus Series Colours, access to ICC colour-managed values, and the ability to print colour palettes straight from the iPhone, using AirPrint.

“We continue to see a fundamental shift in the way designers work and smartphones are increasingly acting as portable colour studios,” says Andy Hatkoff, vice president of technology licensing for Pantone. “myPantone for the iPhone was our first mobile application. Since its release, our Facebook community has been passionate about telling us the features they would like to see in future versions, including CMYK values and display calibration for more accurate colour representation on screen. And, as the mobile market continues to expand, requests for an Android version of myPantone could not be ignored.”

The apps are available from their respective app stores now. myPantone 2.0 for iOS is £5.99 (free for existing users of myPantone), while the Android app is £5.
