PayPal Here is finally coming to Europe with the UK first on its hit list, confirmed Hill Ferguson, VP of global product, but with the price and even a launch date yet to be revealed, it is unclear when the device will start shipping and which select businesses will get their hands on it first.
The Here product was unveiled back in March last year but was until now only available in the US, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong for swipe card payment. The news comes just after payleven and iZettle launched similar products earlier this month, while Intuit and Square are yet to offer anything more than a pilot outside of North America.
On trend with other mPayments providers, the chip and pin reader works with the free PayPal Here iOS and Android app. There is no contract or any on-going fees, just the initial competitive purchase price and a small fee for each transaction. Others are charging 2.75 per cent of the total for each purchase. The app enables users to send invoices and receipts. Theres also a ‘click to call us’ button in the app, which dials straight through to PayPals customer service team.
