Penpower, which provides document recognition mobile applications, has launched its WorldCard Mobile business card reader app for the iPhone, Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 devices in the European market. The app costs $5.99 (£4.10).
WorldCard Mobile transfers contact data from business cards directly to the iPhone’s address book using the device’s camera and text recognition technology. All data such as name, email and phone number is automatically saved to the corresponding fields of the iPhone’s address book.
The app uses optical character recognition technology that converts images captured with an iPhone’s camera into text. It currently recognises seven languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. It has an auto image rotation feature through which the app can even recognise business card images from saved images. Supported devices include the iPhone 3GS (OS 3.1 or later), and other hand-held devices using Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 smartphones with close-up lenses.
