Phone or Food?

Despite gloomy financial forecasts and dim job prospects, 21 per cent of mobile phone owners in the US said they pay more for their mobile phone service than they do for groceries each month.

Other expenses that consumers said they typically spend less on than their mobile phone service included basic utilities like water, gas and electric (33 per cent), cable TV (57 per cent) and internet (71 per cent).

The research, performed by Harris Interactive for money-saving site CouponCabin, found that 59 per cent of respondents pay more than $100 per month for their phones, with 13 per cent forking out more than $200 or more.
