Barclays Pingit mobile money service has been made available to users without a Barclays account. Originally launched in February, the app enables the sending and receiving of money using just a mobile number, and is now available to all over-16s with a UK phone number and current account.
“Barclays Pingit is proving to be more popular than even we were expecting and from today the customers of all UK banks and building societies can also benefit,” says Antony Jenkins, Barclays chief executive, retail and business banking. “The ability to make simple payments to whoever they want, wherever they are, instantly and securely, is making many people’s lives much easier.”
The Pingit app has been downloaded over 400,000 times in its first eight weeks.
