Rogers, a major Canadian telco, has signed a deal with Placecast to offer location-based SMS alerts to its customers.
Its first clients, including Sears Canada and Pizza Hut, will be able to create geofences near their stores so they can send Rogers users personalised offers to tempt them inside. People will have to opt-in to receive Rogers Alerts, which can be customised based on their shopping preferences, with an SMS launch deal for the campaign offering money off their bill.
This is the first deal of this kind with a major Canadian carrier. Placecast’s ShopAlerts are already in use in the UK and US.
