Play.com Makes a Quarter of Sales Via Mobile

Sales made on mobile devices at Play.com have grown 53 per cent year-on-year to reach 23 per cent of total sales.

Around 33 per cent of visits to the online marketplace come from mobile – and it expects Christmas 2013 to be another record-breaking year.

Social is also driving a large amount of traffic to the site. Rakuten, Japanese owners of Play.com, say that sales that come via Facebook are up by 80 per cent  since last year, with these people spending around 24 per cent more than average. Traffic from Pinterest, which Rakuten has invested in, has also grown considerably over the last year.
