Two years on from its original announcement at GDC 2014, Sony has announced the launch details of the PlayStation VR.
The PS VR will be launched this October in North America, Europe and Asia, at the RRP of $399 (€399 in Europe, £349 in the UK). Thats considerably cheaper than the likes of the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but the cost doesnt include everything theyll need – as well as a PS4, users will need to buy the PlayStation Camera ($60, £40).
As you might expect given its pedigree, the PS VRs focus is gaming. Sony claims there are over 160 games currently in development, including from big-name developers like Ubisoft and EA, with at least 50 promised by the end of the year. The system will also have a Cinematic mode, which can be used to show non-VR games and videos on a large (equivalent to 255″) virtual screen, and users will be able to view 360 degrees photos and videos.
