Polar Unveils Hockey App for Android, News Apps for Blackberry

Polar Mobile has announced the release of N. American hockey publicationThe Hockey News as an app for Android devices on the company's SMART platform. The app is already available for Blackberry and iPhone.The launch of the Andriod app coincides with the start of the playoff season. It includes blogs, news, player updates, including trades (transfers) and injuries, as well as team standing, player stats, post-game summaries, and schedules of upcoming games.

In a separate move, the company has unveiled a number of BlackBerry apps for prominent news providers in E. Asia and Europe, including MingPao, Shanghai Daily, Kompas, Yonhap News, Mobile Entertainment Forum, Liberal Democratic Party of the UK, and Expo 2010 Shanghai.

"The need for businesses globally to have a presence on BlackBerry smartphones is increasing, and Polar is well positioned to take our experience in N. Noting that businesses are recognizing the need for a mobile content strategy. Polar Mobile says its rapid growth demonstrates the value achieved in gaining access to smartphone users in a fast, easy, and cost-effective way. Polar’s apps are monetized through in-app advertising, and also leverage the capabilities of the Blackberryb platform with features such as homescreen notification of updates, social media integration and use of BlackBerry Push technology. Polar also provides configurable user-interfaces, plus support in over 15 languages.
