Post-Card Payment

The Post Office is rolling out contactless payment terminals across its 11,500 UK branches, enabling customers to pay using contactless cards and NFC-enabled mobiles at 30,000 counter positions.

The roll out, which represents the largest deployment of the technology in Europe, started this week in branches near the various Olympic sites. It is expected to be completed by the end of October 2012, placing the technology within a three mile radius of 99 per cent of the UK population.

“We are delighted to be delivering cutting edge technology through the Post Office network,” says Lesley Sewell, Post Office CIO. “Contactless will bring huge benefits to our customers by increasing choice and reducing transaction times. Over the next few years, many of our branches will be transformed, becoming more customer-focused, opening for longer and providing services in a convenient and efficient manner. This announcement further demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with more choice and great service.”
