Poynt Gets Samsung Apps Android Preload

Poynt, the mobile local search and advertising platform with over 11m users, is being included in the on-device Samsung Apps feature on Samsung’s Android devices. Poynt will be immediately available to users of all new and existing Android-based Samsung mobile devices, including the Galaxy S II phone and Galaxy Tab Tablet.

Samsung Apps features select apps that Samsung considers most valuable for its customers. Poynt says that its deep device integration creates an immersive user experience that will showcase the powerful capabilities of Samsung’s Android devices.

Poynt has added an Augmented Reality (AR) feature specifically for Samsung’s Android devices. The feature allows users to overlay search results with the real-world environment as viewed through the device camera for a powerful augmented local search experience.

Poynt Corp says that Poynt virtual preloads or on-device offerings have historically resulted in substantial new user adoption, which has in turn meant increasing and broadening revenue streams. The company estimates that its retention rate of users who discover Poynt through a preload or on-device offering is approximately 40 per cent over time.

Samsung recently reported that market demand for its mobile handsets is expected to increase by more than 15 per cent in the second half of 2011, driven by consumers upgrading to smartphones. The company says it also plans to respond to increased demand for its tablet devices, by introducing Galaxy Tabs in various sizes.
Poynt has experienced incredible user uptake and retention on the Android platform,” says Poynt Corp CEO, Andrew Osis. “We expect our long-term service offering through Samsung Apps to accelerate our user numbers globally, with the potential to add 50m new users over time.”
