PressReader App Comes To PlayBook

PressReader, the app that offers over 1,900 worldwide newspapers and magazines on tablet computers, is now available for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The release follows the launch of the app on both Android and iOS in previous months. Developed by NewspaperDirect, the app delivers full-content publications from 95 countries, and makes them available through a digital newsstand called PressDisplay.com

The app is now available for free from the BlackBerry App World app store. Once downloaded, users must buy subscriptions or single issues from the PressDisplay.com store. The app allows users to download big name newspapers such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, and Le Monde

“PressReader for PlayBook is the perfect application for busy professionals who need to stay on top of business-critical news or connect with whats happening at home when they are on the road,” says Alex Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. “The BlackBerry brand is popular around the world and so were extremely pleased to make PressReader available to BlackBerry PlayBook users who want the most immersive news reading experience on their favourite tablet.”

The app makes it possible to easily set up auto-delivery of newspaper and magazine subscriptions, and features include interactive contents pages, social network sharing of articles, and the ability to open articles in an easy-to-read text-only view.

“The robust and growing catalogue of local, national and international newspapers and magazines available through PressReader allows BlackBerry PlayBook users to have instant, portable access to the worlds press every day,” says Tyler Lessard, VP of global alliances and developer relations at Research in Motion.
