NewspaperDirect, the company behind the mobile newspaper app PressReader, has launched a version of the app on the Amazon Appstore that is compatible with the Amazon Fire.
Available at the tablets launch yesterday, PressReader gives users access to more than 2,000 full-colour newspapers from around the world. Users can download newspapers of their choice and read full-screen replicas of the print editions.
PressReader for Android runs on the Amazon Fire, as well as Android tablets and phones running Gingerbread and Honeycomb versions of the OS. The app offers access to newspapers from 95 countries in 51 languages, and can download daily editions automatically.
NewspaperDirect works with publishers to ensure their newspapers and magazines are made available on PressReader as soon as they are in print, and the company says its digital versions are often downloaded before the edition is in the physical shops.
“PressReader gives Amazon users what theyve been missing: hundreds more of their favourite newspapers in a consistent and immersive reading experience, all within just one application,” says Alex Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. “This move means weve also significantly broadened our offering to publishers. The availability of PressReader in the Amazon Appstore means that millions more tablet users will have instant access to the wealth of premium news content only we can offer in this fast-growing digital distribution channel.”
