Qualcomm is adding more weight to its cloud-based visual recognition product Vuforia with the buyout of Swiss company Kooaba.

Co-founder of Kooaba Till Quack said the company was created in 2007 with the vision that image recognition on mobile devices will make the world around us interactive.

The companys API is being used by companies in areas like publishing and eCommerce for product recognition and adding digital elements to printed content. They will now be working with the Vuforia team on visual recognition and augmented reality apps.

Kooaba is no longer accepting new clients and although the company says that customers will not be affected in the short term, longer term it looks like it will be folded into Qualcomm’s operation.
