RBS and NatWest have launched GetCash, a service which enables the banks customers to withdraw money from ATMs without needing their debit card. Part of RBS and NatWests app, the service enables users to request an amount of cash using their mobile, which will then generate a 6-digit pin to be entered at an ATM.

“This has never been done anywhere in the UK, and yet is a really simple and secure way to help our customers get cash, whenever and wherever they need it,” says Ben Green, Head of Mobile at NatWest and RBS. “We’ve heard countless stories from customers who’ve left their wallet behind, or parents who need a quick way to send money across to their children immediately – GetCash means these problems have been solved in a totally secure and painless way.”

The service is an extension of RBS and NatWests existing emergency cash, and will be rolled out to the 2.4m customers who have downloaded the banking app onto their phone.

Rob Wilson, market unit leader at Tradedoubler, thinks the service is the next logical step in the move towards mobile wallets,

“Consumers are determined to extract value from their mobiles in new ways, so the opportunity here should be taken advantage of, and this new app is a perfect example,” says Wilson.  “At Tradedoubler, we have noticed that consumers have been extremely quick to involve mobiles in their purchasing. What they need is a payment method that has been designed for phones, that is easy to use and feels secure. Security is a key concern, and this needs to be addressed by banks and retailers alike.”
