Red Bend Extends Sony Ericsson Agreement

Red Bend Software, which specializes in Mobile Software Management, has renewed its multi-year global licence agreement with Sony Ericsson to provide firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating software, and has expanded its contract to include device management (DM) software, available in the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sony Ericsson has licensed Red Bends vRapid Mobile solution for FOTA updating, and vDirect Mobile for standards-based configuration and device management. Since 2004, Red Bend has provided remote software updating capability to almost 100 Sony Ericsson-branded handsets. The Xperia X10 Android handset is the first Sony Ericsson phone to include both FOTA and DM from Red Bend.
vRapid Mobile is currently deployed in 620 million mobile devices, including handsets, PC cards, WiMAX modems and M2M (Machine-to-machine) modules. vDirect Mobile is a device management client that is interoperable with any server supporting standards from the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA DM). Its modular architecture and cross-platform support improves time to market for mobile devices that must comply with operator requirements for OMA DM. Red Bend notes that its software is used by eight of the top 10 handset makers, as well as Tier-1 operators such as NTT DoCoMo and China Mobile.
