Red Bend Software is providing LG with over-the-air update functionality for the Optimus G smartphone. Red Bend, which already offers mobile software management services for more than 1.6bn devices, is using its vRapid Mobile firmware to remotely update the LG handsets features, applications and operating system.
The company says it ensures completion of software updates even if there is a loss of power or network connection. Consumers can talk, text and play without disruption and it requires minimal memory usage to resolve ‘write before read’ issues. More than 100 LG models are Red Bend-enabled and it is used by more than 80 mobile operators and device manufacturers.
“As one of the first mobile device manufacturers globally committed to over-the-air software updates, LG continues to demonstrate it has a comprehensive understanding of what mobile customers want. We are excited that Optimus G customers around the world will benefit from receiving the latest features and software improvements directly to their phones,” said John Seo, country manager of Korea at Red Bend Software.
The Optimus G uses Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz quad-core processor and includes support for 4G LTE. It has a 4.7-inch HD display, 2GB RAM, 32GB built-in storage and a 13-megapixel camera.
