Regent Street was Europe’s first ever purpose-built shopping street. Designed and built by John Nash in the 1820s for the Prince Regent who later became George IV, Regent Street was intended as a grand scheme to connect his residence, Carlton House Terrace with the newly created Regent’s Park.

Regent Street will also celebrate the 2010 London Festival of Architecture  from 18 June to 4 July with a series of conceptual window displays by acclaimed architects and design agencies. Each will give a short talk about their designs from within the shops on Tuesday 22 June. There’s more information here.
