Rhapsody Selects Dolby to Enhance Music Library

Dolby Laboratories is working with on-demand digital music service Rhapsody to optimize more than 9 million music tracks in Rhapsodys music library with Dolby Media Generator, a set of tools that enables content owners, aggregators, distributors, and operators to format content for mobile delivery and playback.
Rhapsody joins digital music service provider Omnifone in encoding its music library with Dolby Media Generator. The upgrade will offer more efficient delivery, lower storage requirements, higher playback quality, and a richer consumer experience for mobile entertainment. The Rhapsody music catalogue will be encoded into Dolbys digital music format, Dolby Pulse, to enable Rhapsody to deliver its music files with outstanding audio quality at low bit rates, together with accurate display options, intelligent search, and faster load times.
Delivering a high-quality, on-demand streaming music experience to mobile devices will be critical to our ongoing success, says Jon Maples, General Manager, Product Management at Rhapsody. Using Dolby Media Generator helps guarantee that our music library maintains the quality and integrity our subscribers have come to expect from Rhapsody. The ability to provide the best audio experience while creating bandwidth efficiencies made the decision to implement Dolby Media Generator an easy one.
Dolby Media Generator is a software solution for the creation and delivery of digital content to multiple devices and platforms across both fixed and mobile networks. It integrates with existing content management processes and systems, and according to Dolby, offers the flexibility, scalability, and operational efficiencies that content providers, aggregators, and distributors require when implementing new service offerings and adding new connected devices.
