ROK Entertainment Group is working on a live 2-way streaming service that will enable mobile users to interact with a programme while they watch it on their handset. For example, someone watching the X-Factor on their mobile could vote for the contestants as they watch. Or someone watching horse-racing could place a bet. ROK is working with gaming software company i-neda on a Tote-based betting solution.
ROK is calling the application ROK Star because the star button on the handset will function just like the red (interactive) button on a TV remote control. The interactive elements will be overlaid on to incoming live video feeds. The application will work on Symbian Series 60 handsets from Nokia, and on programming material being supplied by ROK TV. ROK says its too early to say when the service will be ready to launch.
