Rovio has unveiled its latest game, Angry Birds Star Wars II. Set to launch on September 19, the app will take on the prequels – the more recent, and less beloved, trilogy of Star Wars films.
Rovio continuing its franchise tie-in with Lucasfilm is no surprise, especially given that it announced earlier this month that its first Star Wars game had passed 100m downloads. 
But whats interesting is how the company has taken the opportunity to further expand its range of Angry Birds merchandise. Hasbro will be producing a line of 30 collectable toys featuring the games characters. The key is that these will have Skylanders-style functionality – when players scan the figures with their devices camera, it will give them access to the relevant character in the game.
