RunKeeper has partnered with Kiip to introduce branded Rewards to its activity tracker app.
Discounts from advertisers pop up on-screen after users workouts, and are tied to the user achieving something during their run, like beating a personal best, the idea being that theyll feel like they personally earned the discount or freebie on offer.
RunKeeper, which has over 34m users, is a free app for both iOS and Android, and has so far been monetised entirely through in-app purchases.
“Our experience has been ad-free for a long time, as we have not wanted to disrupt the consumer experience,” said RunKeeper CEO & founder, Jason Jacobs. “Kiip is different, as their rewards add that extra incentive to motivate our community, and recognize users’ most impressive achievements.”
One of the first advertisers on board is Pebble, maker of smartwatches – a natural fit for the proposition, as its devices can be connected to the RunKeeper app.
