Samsung has launched a new smartphone and a smaller tablet model at the IFA technology show in Berlin.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is a new smartphone that boasts a 5.3-inch HD display, and a S Pen interface for pen-based input on the touchscreen.
The company has also released a smaller tablet model, called the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. This 7.7-inch tablet features Samsungs new Super AMOLED Plus display – which the company says the new technology delivers high-contrast colours and a crisp viewing experience.
The Samsung Galaxy Notes big draw is its large screen, which Samsung says makes it viable to use true split-screen operation, reducing the need to switch between apps. The company is also keen to talk up the Notes creative powers, thanks to that S Pen input.
The company has built-in a note-taking app, called S Memo. This is a multimedia app designed to record pictures, voice recordings, typed text, handwritten notes or drawings. These can be edited and shared using the touchscreen or the S Pen.
Juniper Networks is working to enhance S Note, making it compatible with the Junos Pulse SSL VPN for remote access to corporate network resources.
The phone is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and features HSPA+ and LTE networking capabilities.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet is also powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor. Aside from its AMOLED Plus screen, the tablet supports full 1080p HD playback of videos, and offers additional microSD storage options.
It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb and features an additional Samsung Android skin called TouchQiz UX. This has a Live Panel menu for customising the home screen, with digital pictures, favourite websites and social network feeds.
In addition, the TouchWiz UX includes a Mini Apps tray of commonly used features such as the task manager, calendar and music player, which can be launched while other major applications are already in use.
The tablet also features apps that allows the tablet to be a universal remote for your home entertainment system, controlling TV, Set-top box, DVD, Blu-ray player, and AV audio system via the Galaxy Tab 7.7s touchscreen.
The tablet is connected to Samsungs Hub Services, giving access to games, eBooks, and music. It is the first Samsung tablet to feature a Game Hub, allowing quick download of games content.
