Samsung has acquired the connected TV start-up MOVL, an early winner of its smart TV app competition with WeDraw.
Along with creating further games like SmartFitTV and PokerFun, the company now enables developers to create connected TV and mobile apps in the cloud via its Kontrol.tv API. MOVL hoped to create one platform for developers to make smart TV apps and Kontrol already works across Samsung and Google TV, along with iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Samsung now owns the platform so may not continue to use the cross-device element of MOVL’s software.
The companys 10 employees, including CEO Juan Pablo Gnecco and CTO Alan Queen, will be moving from its Atlanta HQ to Samsungs San Jose office in California.
