Samsung will be bringing ticketless technology to live music events in the UK this summer. In association with Kilimanjaro Live and Intellitix, RFID technology will be introduced at The Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ upcoming Knebworth gig, followed by the Wakestock festival in July.
RFID wristbands are being issued to ticket buyers, which will be read on arrival to validate their entry. The wearer can then choose to link the wristband to their social media profiles, or used to enter event-relevant competitions.
Samsung is also preparing a system to enable gig-goers with an NFC-enabled mobile phone to use it as their ticket at future events.
“We’re delighted to announce our involvement in the first roll out of ticketless technology this country has seen,” says Simon Stanford, VP telecommunications & networks division, Samsung UK and Ireland. “In future, everyone will be able to use their mobile phone as their ticket, whether they are music fans going to a gig, or a commuters travelling to work. So we’re excited to be aligning ourselves with that technology and to be bringing a new experience to both our customers and to music fans across the country.”
