Samsung Pay Begins Trials in Korea

Samsung PaySamsung has begun trials of its Samsung Pay service in South Korea, ahead of a full roll-out in the country.

Against similarly-named competitors like Apple Pay and Android Pay, Samsung Pays biggest USP is the fact that it supports not only NFC but also the MST(Magnetic Secure Transmission) technologies already used by most card readers. For this reason, Samsung says, it will be accepted in more stores than any other mobile payment service in Korea.

The trial will initially be available to Samsung Galaxy S6 owners, and can leverage the devices fingerprint scanner for authentication. Pay is integrated deep into these handsets – the app can be accessed by swiping up on the phones lockscreen or homescreen, taking the place of Googles search app on most Android phones, and can even be activated when the devices screen is switched off.

After Korea, Samsung Pay is slated to launch in the US next, at some point this summer, with other regions including Europe and China at an unspecified point in the future.
