Following its initial recall of the Galaxy Note 7 last month due to fire concerns, Samsung has reportedly stopped production of the handset entirely.

Acccording to South Koreas Yonhap News Agency, some of the replacement Note 7 devices shipped after the recall have also caught fire, leading Samsung to temporarily suspend production in its factories, including one plant in Vietnam responsible for worldwide shipments.

The move is the result of Samsung cooperating with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China, according to an unnamed official at one of the companys suppliers.

Samsung has not directly confirmed or denied the report, but has issued a statement admitting that “we are temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters”.

In the US, mobile operators T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon have announced that they will no longer be replacing the recalled devices with another Note 7, instead offering customers a refund or a trade for a different smartphone model.

The initial recall came after 2.5m handsets had been sold. How many more have been affected by this new development is currently unclear, but the estimated $1bn cost of the recall for Samsung is only growing.
