Samsung Testing Mind-Controlled Tablet

Samsung is researching how users could control mobile devices with their thoughts.

In collaboration with the University of Texas, researchers are investigating how brain signals, detected by electroencephalography (EEG) technology, could be used to perform common tasks on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Participants have reportedly been able to launch an app and navigate around within it, by concentrating on a set of blinking icons, according to MITs Technology Review.

Samsung actually filed a patent for technology relating to a brain/computer interface back in November 2012.

The manufacturer says it has no plans to offer EEG-controlled devices anytime in the near future but, alongside the eye-tracking controls used by the forthcoming Galaxy S4 and Googles Glass wearable devices, its an interesting technology to watch going forward.
