Samsung to Unveil First Smart Watch on 4 September

Samsung is set to unveil its first smart watch, the Galaxy Gear, next week.
The device will be revealed, along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet device, at a pre-IFA event on Wednesday 4 September. Thats according to Samsung mobile executive vice president, Lee Young-Hee, who confirmed the existence of the long-rumoured smart watch in an interview with The Korea Times.
The timing puts the announcement less than a week ahead of Apples press event on 10 September – expect the worlds two biggest OEMs to dominate headlines even more than usual next month.
Bigger picture 
Its been a busy week for smart watch news. Androidly, an equivalent device from India, has just launched its Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, though it has so far only managed to raise $1,200 of the $10,000 it needs to be successful.
Meanwhile, Juniper Research has forecast that smart watch shipments will reach 36m by 2018, up from just over 1m this year.
