Samsung Unveils Family Hub 2.0 Smart Refrigerators

Samsung Family Hub 2.0Samsung has unveiled Family Hub 2.0 at CES 2017, following the success of the first iteration last year. The newer generation will expand the tech giant’s fleet from four to 10 refrigerator models – as well as offering ‘enhanced usability with improved app integration and diverse new app partners’.

The Family Hub 2.0 is said to help users determine which food items need to be replenished through inside cameras, with the ability to add these to the shopping list feature to be ordered through the Groceries by MasterCard app. The smart refrigerators also feature a recipe app.

In addition, family members are said to be able to use the 21.5in touchscreen as an interactive bulletin board and – using created profiles – update their family with whatever they wish. Furthermore, certain Family Hub apps have Samsung’s voice technology integrated to create a ‘more convenient kitchen experience’.

“After just one year of availability, the Family Hub has transformed the concept of the connected kitchen by enabling users to order and manage grocery shopping, connect with family and friends, and access entertainment right from the comfort of their kitchen,” said Byung-Sam Seo, president of home appliances at Samsung Electronics. “… the Family Hub 2.0 is entirely about helping consumers better manage as well as enjoy their lives.”

Samsung says it is collaborating with several partners, including Grubhub, Spotify and iHeartRadio, to provide ‘further upcoming choices for food delivery and cooking, location-based safety and home security services, and entertainment offerings’.

The South Korean multinational also unveiled its new line of smart built-in cooking appliances that can be controlled remotely through wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
