Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby, has finally launched to US Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners in all its glory – following several delays in implementing the AI’s voice functions in the Land of the Free.

Bixby’s voice functions have been available in South Korea since the launch of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, however, the US received all of Bixby’s features bar the most important one. Once Samsung realised that Bixby’s voice capabilities would not arrive in the US with the S8 and S8+, it penned a launch of the function for spring. The launch of the feature was further delayed due to a lack of big data, according to reports. Now, it has finally arrived.

According to Samsung, users in the US can use their voice to ask Bixby to complete tasks such as turning on the phone’s flashlight, taking a screenshot or taking a selfie, as well as more complex tasks like creating a photo album and then sharing the photos with family and friends, or remembering and reminding the user of things.

“There are over 10,000 functions on our smartphones, but each day, people may use less than five percent of them. The features on your phone are only useful if you know how to find them,” said Injong Rhee, EVP and head of R&D, software and services of mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics. “Our goal with Bixby is to make it easier to use our phones, creating the best possible user experience for our customers. That’s why we created Bixby – an intuitive new way to do more things with your phone,”
