Scanbuy Processing One Scan Every Second

Mobile barcode technology company Scanbuy says its solutions now process more than a scan every second around the world. This is up from 10 scans per minute, or one every six seconds, a year ago, representing a growth in traffic of 500 per cent, with 2D barcode scanning currently outpacing the growth of 1D barcodes.

Scans come from over 125 different countries around the world, and Scanbuy says 45,000 2D barcodes were generated from the ScanLife platform in the 2nd quarter, a 300 per cent increase from a year ago.

“The Scanlife app is now producing 20,000 app activations every day with user activity rates consistently increasing from what we saw a year ago, and in some countries, like the US, almost half of all smartphones have downloaded an app capable of scanning a QR code,” says Mike Wehrs, president and CEO of Scanbuy. “These results show consist growth in consumer adoption, which will continue to increase more rapidly as we see more codes published by brands, resellers, marketers and advertisers.”

The figures were published in Scanbuys Mid-Year Trend Report, a copy of which can be downloaded here
