Shazam and NBC Universal channel Syfy have teamed up to launch the first, series-long ‘TV Tagging’ initiative for the cable channel’s new series, Being Human, writes Eva McGarr.
The Shazam logo is embedded into the program so that users can tag the show. Viewers simply ‘Touch to Shazam’ and hold their phone up to the TV to tag the specific episode. The Shazam app recognizes the episode and delivers a customized tag result to the viewers’ mobile device. This includes links to downloads; exclusive videos and previews of upcoming episodes; access to artists and playlists from the series; and the chance to enter the ‘Being Human Shazam Sweepstakes’ at Syfy.com.
“Giving Syfy viewers the chance to ‘Tag the TV’ with Shazam taps into the fact that the majority of viewers are watching their favourite shows with a second screen at their fingertips,” says Jonathan Symons, executive vice-president of business development at Shazam. “Shazam is bridging the gap between mobile devices and the TV, engaging and retaining the attention of TV audiences beyond the live broadcast.”
