Shazam has introduced unlimited tagging for users of its free app on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. The free app and unlimited tagging are supported by advertising, sponsorships and product sales.
To celebrate the launch, Shazam is also announcing a special Golden Tag promotion for Shazamers in the UK to win £15,000. Each time people Shazam a song, they have a chance to win the cash prize. People who use Encore, the premium version of the Shazam service, will continue to enjoy additional exclusive features such as no ads, and LyricPlay – which enables users to view lyrics as they play in time to the music.
“Shazamers already identify over 1bn songs each year and go on to purchase over $100m in digital music via our service,” says Shazam CEO, Andrew Fisher. “Now, with no limits, people can Shazam even more songs they don’t know – or they already know – to conveniently purchase them, see the lyrics, watch the official music video, share on Facebook, Twitter or email, get recommendations and purchase concert tickets instantly. Unlimited free access means people can use Shazam even more as part of their daily lives.”
Currently in the US and soon to arrive in the UK, Shazam also enables users to engage with TV shows and ads as more broadcast and cable networks offer exclusive, new content directly to the Shazam community, and brands look to reach Shazamers via TV advertising.
“All of this is possible due to the increasing maturity of mobile advertising and the strength of Apple’s iOS ecosystem,” says Fisher. “Because of these essential improvements, we can make this fundamental change to unlimited usage in our free app,” says Fisher.
