Shazam Names BBCs Daniel Danker as Chief Product Officer

Shazam has appointed Daniel Danker as its chief product officer, a newly-created position.

Danker joins the company from his previous position of general manager of programmes and on demand at the BBC – while in that role he oversaw strategy and delivery of the iPlayer, iPlayer Radio, and Red Button products, and worked on the BBCs 2012 Olympics online media experience. Before that, he worked at Microsoft on its Mediaroom and Xbox Music platforms.

At Shazam, Danker will be responsible for leading the expansion of the companys products, including Shazam TV and its range of smartphone and tablet apps, as well as working with social networks.

“Producing one of the most-downloaded apps of all time, Shazam has built its reputation on providing people with a discovery experience for music and television that sets the standard,” said Danker. “I look forward to using my experience at Microsoft and the BBC to help Shazam create engaging products that delight.”
