homelandUS cable network Showtime has unveiled mobile ads for the new season of political thriller Homeland that integrate haptic technology to give the viewer tactile feedback.

The ad, produced in partnership with haptic technology firm Immersion, uses vibrations to mimic the feeling of an explosive blast as one is shown during a video ad for the series, creating a new level of engagement with the viewer.

The ad, which currently only works on Android phones, will be shown through the cable networks own mobile app, as well as ads on Slate magazines app.

“Ive been on the cutting edge of video on demand, high definition, bringing video to the Internet, and I view this as the next progression, which is bringing haptics – the sense of touch – to the video entertainment experience,” said Jason Patton, vice president of content and media at Immersion, speaking to CNet.
